What do YOU want to be “Better at”

This year we launch our new motto/mantra/theme/statement to hang our hats on, “Better at.”

We are not a muscle gym.  We are not a ‘no pain no gain’ crowd.  We are not the sort of place where you have to look perfect and/or know how to work out perfectly in order to be here.  (*** We love all that by the way, no judgement being cast— just describing a little bit of the DNA of our vibe).

We ARE a come as you are, just show up, turn up, at what ever level you are at from novice to expert.  We are a family vibe, much of our members have fostered friendships that are more like fr-amily now.

Working out at a gym is a vulnerable space.  It can be an anxious space, for males and females alike.  It can be a place where some really have to take a deep breath to step foot inside a facility. We know this.

The world tells us that we have to be resilient, skinny, strong, smart, a certain weight, invincible, immune to pain, successful and good at just about e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. The world tells us, daily, from just about every angle to be perfect.

We get it, but here at Transcend Fitness Club and Functional Training, we don’t want perfection from you.  We just want you to be better.  That’s it. What is one thing that you can prioritize to be ‘better at.’  Fitness or not fitness related.  What is it?

For me, (Allison, hi) I actually want to be better at 40.  I am 35 right now.  And I’ve really only started my fitness journey over the last 17 months.  I can say with assurance that I am physically stronger now then when I was 30.  That physical strength, for me, directly computes to strength in every other area of my life; marriage, parenting, running a business alongside my husband, being a good friend, the list goes on- you get the point.  So for me, my goal for this year (and the next while) is to be better at 40.  I want to be physically stronger and more capable when I am older then I am now.  Hopefully I will have mastered “snatches” by then :).  Hopefully.

What do YOU want to be better at.  We aren’t going for perfection.  Perfection isn’t real, but better is.  Think about it.  Tell us your story any time on social media #Betterat, let your trainers know what your #betterat is.  We are all aiming to be better at something.  Let’s do this together!

Toy Drive Throwdown

Our Toy Drive Throwdown is Back December 12th at 6pm!

We are excited to kick off another year of 12 Days of Fitmas with a Toy Drive Throwdown  benefiting  Bucks County Children and Youth.

We will be holding the gym-wide Throwdown on December 12 at 6pm. Entry is free but all members must bring a wrapped toy to participate in the throwdown.

There are two ways you can provide toys to the children of BCC&Y:

1. Bring your choice of a toy wrapped and labeled with who it would ideally be for (example: toy for 4-5 year old girl)

OR

2. Choose a tag from our giving tree for children at BCC&Y who have asked for specific items and bring one requested toy wrapped and labeled with the tag we have provided (example: doll for Kayla).

IMPORTANT
There are giving trees in both gyms with children’s names and the items they have requested are 0n the gift tags.

*Members do NOT have to participate in the throwdown if they only wish to gift a toy!*

See you December 12th at 6pm!

OUR HOMETOWN HERO

Commander Carl E. Megonigle, US NAVY

Today, we honor all veterans who have faithfully and sacrificially served our country.  We are free because of your heroism and we salute you.

We want to highlight a special member of our Transcend family, Commander Carl E. Megonigle, US NAVY.  Carl served as a rescue helicopter pilot for 26 years, which included the Vietnam war.  Carl told us recently that in his entire Navy career, no one was lost or killed on his watch. Commander Megonigle also shared with us that he rescued hundreds of individuals over the years from destitute crisis points.

Today, one of his helicopters hangs in a Pensacola museum.  Outside of combat, Carl was mostly stationed along the Mediterranean Sea, and rescued people all over that part of the world.  When you see him, feel free to ask about his experiences.  He is generous to share his stories however, be warned, you may need tissues.  Carl is the epitome of a modern day hero.  He has been there, done that, and seen it all.

Carl is presently 85 years old and is one of our most devout members here at TFC.  When you see him this week, shake his hand, or give him a good old fist pump. Carl, we are so grateful for your service and it truly is a privilege to know you.  You bring joy, fun, stature- and a little. mischief wherever you go and we are so thankful for you.

Hero status!

Build a Life You Don’t Need a Vacation From

Build a life you don’t need a vacation from.

Look, I know that sounds hallmark-esque and idealistic but there ARE ways we can eliminate some unnecessary elements from our lives in the pursuit of building a life we dont need a vacation from.

Suggestion: AUDIT

What are you on about, you say?  Audit. Audit your year.  Glance back at 2019 thus far and make a list with four categories on it.

1. LOVED IT, need MORE of this

2. Purposeful, enjoyable, fruitful, but dial it back a bit- less is more.

3. NEVER AGAIN will I do this.  Waste of time/drain of energy/emotions/resources/fills with dread/takes to long to recover from the impact of.

4. Haven’t done this but I want to so I am going to list.  If that’s a day off, plan it. if it’s a needed date, write down TODAY when that is going to happen.

Get your paper and pens, or if you are too techno for that, make some techno list, but I’m serious: Look back and audit the pants off of your last 10 months.  Why?  Time is not a renewable resource.  Your time whether you see it this way or not, is unique to you and a commodity that none of us can afford to waste.

*Still go on vacation* but we do have an element of control of our atmospheres, and if there is something you can shed, add, or re-position, do it today!
